Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has reportedly withdrawn from the Black Stars squad ahead of the team’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers after suffering an injury.

Semenyo is said to have pulled out of the squad to allow more time for recovery and further medical assessment, adding to Ghana’s injury concerns ahead of the international break.

The Manchester City forward has made a strong start to the 2026/27 season, scoring two goals and providing three assists in seven appearances across all competitions. He has featured five times in the Premier League, where he has scored twice and registered three assists, while also making appearances in the UEFA Champions League and FA Community Shield.

His reported withdrawal presents another setback for Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, who has already made changes to his squad following a number of injuries and player withdrawals.

Ghana are preparing for their opening matches in the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign as the Black Stars begin their bid to secure a place at the tournament.

There has been no official update on the severity of Semenyo’s injury or whether he could rejoin the squad later in the international window.
