The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it has helped return nearly 7,000 Ghanaians who faced difficult or unsafe conditions abroad since 2025.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa disclosed that 6,936 Ghanaians have so far been brought back to Ghana through repatriation and evacuation efforts carried out by the government in collaboration with international partners.

According to the Minister, 4,972 Ghanaians were repatriated from different countries, including Libya, Cambodia and Kuwait, after finding themselves in distress.

The overall figure increased following the government’s recent evacuation of 1,964 Ghanaians from South Africa amid security concerns and xenophobic attacks.

Mr Ablakwa explained that the two figures combined bring the total number of Ghanaians assisted back home since 2025 to 6,936.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting Ghanaians abroad and ensuring that citizens facing serious difficulties receive the necessary assistance.

The Foreign Affairs Minister stressed that the government would continue to respond whenever Ghanaian citizens are at risk, regardless of where they are located.

He said the safety, dignity and welfare of Ghanaians remain a priority, adding that any threat to a Ghanaian citizen should be regarded as a concern for the entire country.
