The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Professor Lydia Aziato, has assured the newly installed Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Christian Agyare, of the full support of the Vice-Chancellors Ghana (VCG), describing the association as a dependable network of colleagues committed to advancing higher education.
Speaking on behalf of VCG at Professor Agyare’s investiture on August 1, 2026, Professor Aziato welcomed him into the fraternity of Vice-Chancellors, alongside the newly appointed Vice-Chancellors of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT). She pledged that VCG would work closely with him, offering guidance, experience and encouragement throughout his tenure.
“Vice-Chancellors Ghana welcomes you to our midst. We will support you, we will work with you, we will be a shoulder to lean on, we will be a sounding board for you and we will be a colleague.”
Professor Aziato noted that the office of Vice-Chancellor carries one of the highest academic and administrative responsibilities in the country, requiring intellectual leadership, strategic foresight, moral courage and a steadfast commitment to institutional excellence. She said the decisions Professor Agyare makes will influence not only KNUST’s future but also the lives of students, researchers, staff, alumni and the wider society.
She observed that universities are operating in an era of rapid transformation driven by artificial intelligence, digital technologies, changing labour markets, evolving funding models and growing expectations for research and innovation. According to her, universities must become more resilient, entrepreneurial and globally competitive while remaining committed to academic freedom, integrity, inclusion and public service.
Professor Aziato acknowledged that the role would come with significant challenges but said transformative leadership often emerges in difficult moments. She added that the success of a Vice-Chancellor should be measured not only by infrastructure and rankings but also by the people they empower, the values they uphold and the legacy they leave behind.
Concluding her remarks, she prayed for wisdom, strength and divine guidance for Professor Agyare, expressing confidence that his tenure would be remembered for excellence and lasting impact.
“May God who gave you this opportunity hold you. May He strengthen you. May your stewardship be distinguished by excellence, may your leadership be remembered for its impact, and may your legacy endure for generations yet unborn.”
Professor Christian Agyare officially joins the Vice-Chancellors Ghana (VCG) fraternity alongside Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto, the newly sworn-in Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), and Professor Bernard Kumi-Boateng, the newly sworn-in Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT). Formerly known as the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals (CVCP), the body serves as a platform for collaboration among the heads of Ghana’s public universities, promoting dialogue, policy advocacy and the advancement of higher education across the country.
