The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has commenced efforts to restore electricity supply following a widespread power outage that affected several parts of the country in the early hours of Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

According to GRIDCo, the disruption occurred at approximately 3:11 a.m. after a disturbance on the National Interconnected Transmission System caused several generating plants to trip simultaneously.

The incident resulted in interruptions to electricity supply across the national power system, leaving homes, businesses and other facilities without power.

GRIDCo said its engineers and system operators have activated established restoration procedures and are working in coordination with other stakeholders within the power sector to bring the system back to normal operation as quickly and safely as possible.

The company explained that the restoration process is being carried out cautiously to prevent further disruptions and ensure the safety of personnel and equipment involved.

In addition to the restoration exercise, GRIDCo has launched a technical investigation to establish the exact cause of the system disturbance and determine the factors that triggered the simultaneous tripping of the generating plants.

The company has assured the public that its technical teams are working continuously to restore electricity supply and stabilise the national grid.

The latest outage has once again brought concerns about the reliability and resilience of Ghana’s power infrastructure, particularly following previous disruptions that have affected electricity supply in different parts of the country.

GRIDCo has appealed to consumers and other stakeholders for patience and understanding as restoration efforts continue, promising to provide further updates on the situation as more information becomes available.
