The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has issued a travel advisory urging its staff and students to suspend all planned trips to South Africa until further notice.
The university says the directive follows recent demonstrations in parts of South Africa that have reportedly targeted foreign nationals. Some of the protests have resulted in violence and disruptions to public life, raising concerns about the safety of foreigners in the country.
In response, KNUST has instructed members of its community to defer both official and personal travel to South Africa. The university has also directed responsible officers to halt approvals for all official travel to the country.
For staff and students already in South Africa, KNUST is encouraging them to remain vigilant, avoid protest areas and large gatherings, stay updated through local media, follow the advice of local authorities and Ghana’s diplomatic mission, and maintain regular contact with the university.
The university has also asked members of its community in South Africa to contact the University Relations Office in case of an emergency by calling 0322 499 897 or sending an email to uro@knust.edu.gh.
