Standard Chartered Bank is reportedly exploring the sale of its retail banking operations in Ghana as part of a broader strategy to focus on corporate and institutional banking services in key markets.
The move forms part of the bank’s ongoing efforts to streamline operations and concentrate on higher-growth business segments.
The development is consistent with the bank’s strategy across several African markets, where it has either exited or is in the process of exiting retail banking operations.
The bank has previously announced plans to divest retail banking businesses in countries including Uganda, Botswana and Zambia while maintaining its corporate and institutional banking presence.
Sources indicate that any potential transaction in Ghana would be subject to regulatory approvals and negotiations with prospective investors.
Standard Chartered has assured customers that operations will continue as normal throughout any transition process, with no immediate changes to banking services.
The lender, which has operated in Ghana for well over a century, remains one of the country’s oldest and most established financial institutions.
