Ghana Launches Diaspora Ticket Support Initiative Ahead of Panama Clash

Ghana Fans

Ghana’s High Commission in Canada has called on Ghanaian residents who hope to attend the Black Stars’ FIFA World Cup clash against Panama in Toronto but have been unable to secure tickets to submit their details for possible assistance.

The appeal follows a directive from Ghana’s Ministry of Sports and Recreation, which has tasked the High Commission with compiling a database of interested supporters ahead of the June 17 fixture.

In a notice issued by Ghana’s High Commissioner to Canada, Prof. Dora Francis Edu-Buandoh, supporters seeking assistance are required to provide their full names and email addresses through the mission’s official email channel by June 10.

According to the statement, the information gathered will be forwarded to the Ministry for further consideration as part of efforts to help Ghanaian fans in the diaspora support the national team during the tournament.

The initiative forms part of broader government plans to facilitate attendance for Ghanaians living abroad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Recently, President John Dramani Mahama announced that government support would focus on helping diaspora communities access match tickets rather than financing travel for supporters from Ghana.

He explained that sponsoring large numbers of fans to travel to North America would place a significant financial burden on the state and would not align with current fiscal priorities.

Ghana’s opening group-stage encounter against Panama is expected to attract strong support from the Ghanaian community in Canada, with Toronto hosting one of the Black Stars’ key matches at the tournament.

Authorities are therefore encouraging interested supporters who are yet to obtain tickets to register within the stipulated deadline to be considered for any available assistance.
