Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will continue without another warm-up game after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) abandoned plans for an additional friendly match.
The GFA had hoped to secure one final test for coach Carlos Queiroz and his squad following their draw against Wales in Cardiff on June 2. The match was expected to give the technical team another opportunity to assess players before the start of the tournament.
Jamaica and Honduras were among the countries contacted for a possible behind-closed-doors encounter, but discussions failed to produce an agreement.
Explaining the situation, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum said the association was unable to secure an opponent despite making arrangements for the match.
“Once we were the ones calling for this friendly, it means all costs come to us,” he told JoySports.
“We succeeded in securing the venue, but the opponents did not give us positive feedback.”
He added that there are currently no ongoing plans for another preparatory game.
“As we speak, there is nothing on the table.”
“At this moment, it does not look likely. The coach wants us to focus on training for now.
The Black Stars will now concentrate on training ahead of their opening World Cup match against Panama on June 17 before facing England and Croatia in their remaining Group L fixtures.
