President John Dramani Mahama has returned to Ghana from an official visit to France ahead of an emergency cabinet meeting convened to address the rising cost of fuel and its impact on households and businesses. The meeting, scheduled for today, is expected to focus on measures to cushion Ghanaians from the impact of fuel price increases largely driven by global tensions, including conflicts in the Middle East that have put upward pressure on international oil markets.
While in France, President Mahama co‑chaired the 2026 One Health Summit with French President Emmanuel Macron, strengthening bilateral cooperation before cutting the trip short to return home for the urgent session. The government is seeking immediate interventions to ease the burden on Ghanaian consumers as fuel costs continue to rise, with policymakers under pressure to balance global economic shocks with domestic affordability concerns.
