Sprinter Bus Collision Claims Four Lives in Northern Ghana

A fatal crash on the Buipe,Tamale highway near Sawaba No. 2 has claimed the lives of four people .The crash, which occurred on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, involved a Sprinter Benz bus with registration number AS 9332-17 that was travelling from Buipe to Kumasi.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service, personnel from the Buipe Fire Command responded promptly after receiving reports of the incident. Before their arrival, 19 passengers had already been rescued and taken to the Buipe Government Hospital for medical attention.
Firefighters later rescued three additional victims who had been trapped in the wreckage of the bus. Unfortunately, four individuals,two men and two women lost their lives. Three were declared dead at the scene, while one succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
Thebodies of the deceased were handed over to the police for preservation and further investigation. The Fire Service noted that the Sprinter bus suffered severe damage.
Initial investigations indicate that the accident was caused by a trailer truck, which fled the scene after the collision. Authorities also credited the swift response of the Buipe Fire Station crew for helping to minimise further casualties and ensuring that survivors received timely medical care.
