Renowned Ghanaian media personality Kafui Dey has expressed readiness to host the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, which is scheduled to take place on 9th May,2026 ,if given the opportunity by organisers.
Speaking on Showbiz A-Z, Kafui noted that although he is widely recognised for hosting corporate events, he also has strong experience handling concerts and music-related programmes. He added that his passion for music makes him well-suited for an event like the TGMA.
The conversation around hosting the awards has remained a key issue over the years, with many patrons calling for improvements in the overall presentation. Since its inception, the awards scheme has featured several prominent hosts including Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, Berla Mundi and Giovani Caleb.
Kafui also suggested the introduction of “seat fillers” particularly university students to help address delays and improve audience presence at the start of events. He explained that this system, used at major international awards like the Grammys and Oscars, could help maintain a full auditorium and ensure smoother transitions.
Although he commended the progress made by the awards scheme, he pointed out that one ongoing issue is the frequent delay in starting events. According to him, late start times make the job of MCs more difficult and affect the overall flow of the programme.
To address this, he proposed that organisers consider engaging students from institutions such as UPSA, UniMAC and UG to serve as seat fillers. He explained that this approach is commonly used at major international events like the Academy Awards and the Grammy Awards, where students are given complimentary access to occupy empty seats at the beginning of the show.
He noted that this ensures the venue appears full at the start, and as key guests and celebrities arrive, the placeholders can vacate their seats, allowing for a smoother and more organised event experience.
