Family, friends and fans of legendary Ghanaian musician Ebo Taylor will gather in Saltpond this Saturday, March 14, 2026, for his one week memorial observance. Taylor passed away on February 7, 2026, at the age of 90 after a remarkable music career that spanned more than six decades.
Born Deroy Taylor in Cape Coast in 1936, the guitarist, composer and bandleader rose to prominence in the late 1950s and early 1960s when Highlife music dominated Ghana’s music scene. His distinctive sound blended traditional Ghanaian rhythms with elements of jazz, funk, soul and early Afrobeat. Songs such as Heaven, Odofo Nyi Akyiri Biara, and Love and Death gained renewed international recognition in later years through sampling by global artists.

Widely regarded as one of the architects of modern West African popular music, Ebo Taylor’s influence continues to resonate across generations, with tributes pouring in from fans and industry figures celebrating his lasting contribution to Ghanaian and African music.
