The Kumasi High Court has issued bench warrants for the arrest of the Kenyasehene and the Odikro of Buobai after they failed to appear before the court in connection with an ongoing land fraud case involving public land in the Asokore-Mampong Municipality.
The two traditional leaders are alleged to be connected to the sale of a 10.54-acre portion of a 19.06-acre parcel originally acquired by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly for public use.Nine other accused persons, including former Asokore-Mampong Municipal Chief Executive Alidu Seidu, remain in police custody after failing to meet the bail conditions set by the court. Each was granted bail in the sum of GH¢800,000, with three landed property sureties required, but none has satisfied the requirements to secure their release.
The accused face 12 charges, including conspiracy to falsify land records, fraudulent breach of trust, unlawful occupation of public land, and possession of forged documents. Prosecutors allege the land, which had been earmarked for public facilities including a septage treatment plant and later a hospital, was redesignated without proper authorisation and divided into 34 residential plots.
Investigations further revealed that one of the suspects presented a letter claiming the land had been returned to the traditional stool, but checks by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly reportedly showed the document was not genuine. The complaint that led to the prosecution was filed by the current Municipal Chief Executive, Ben Abdallah Alhassan. The case has been adjourned to March 12, 2026 for further hearing.
