Mr Josef Franz Schellhorn, State Secretary at Austria’s Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to expanding political, economic and cultural ties with Ghana. He described Ghana as a key partner in promoting peace and stability, citing its record as a stable democracy and advocate for regional peace.
He stressed that Austria’s engagement would go beyond dialogue to include practical cooperation, particularly in peacebuilding and security, adding that both countries continue to serve together in United Nations peacekeeping missions.
On the economic front, he noted that Austrian businesses were increasingly recognising opportunities within Ghana’s growing economy. Renewable energy, infrastructure, waste management, water systems and green technology were identified as priority areas for mutually beneficial investment and development cooperation.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs James Gyakye Quayson described the consultations as another important step in strengthening relations between the two countries, which date back to 1960. He said the partnership has been built on mutual respect and shared goals of peace, prosperity and sustainable development.
He also referenced Austrian-funded development projects in Ghana, including highway upgrades and water supply extensions, while assuring that any outstanding financial concerns were being addressed transparently.
Both sides expressed optimism that the consultations would yield positive outcomes and further deepen the long-standing Ghana-Austria partnership.
