Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the alleged lynching of a 26-year-old Liberian national at Lashibi.
The suspects Francis Amuzu, 44; William Adison, 36; and Vincent Adzikah, 34, are currently in police custody assisting with investigations being conducted by the Sakumono District Police Command.
According to a police situational report, the Sakumono District Patrol Team received a distress call from an unidentified caller on Friday, February 27, reporting that a man had been attacked and severely beaten by a group of angry residents near the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) area at Lashibi.
The patrol team swiftly responded to the scene, where officers found the victim, identified as Austin Tengeeh, lying unconscious. He had visible signs of assault around his neck and head.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the mob allegedly mistook the victim for a thief.
He was immediately rushed to the Sakumono Community Hospital for emergency medical treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body has since been deposited at the Sakumono Community Hospital morgue, while authorities undertake the necessary processes, including diplomatic protocols, given the victim’s nationality.
Police say investigations are ongoing.
