Shama Glass Factory to Employ Thousands, Boost Ghana’s Export Capacity – Prez Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the soon-to-be-completed glass manufacturing factory in Shama is expected to create significant employment opportunities and boost Ghana’s export capacity, as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s industrial growth.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for the float glass manufacturing plant and the commissioning of a sanitary wares factory by KEDA (Ghana) Ceramics Company Limited, the President said the facility would generate jobs for many Ghanaians especially young people, while positioning the country as a competitive producer of glass for both domestic and regional markets.

He explained that the factory would reduce Ghana’s reliance on imported glass products and at the same time serve as an export hub to neighbouring countries, helping to earn foreign exchange and support economic expansion.

According to President Mahama, the scale of the Shama project places it among the largest glass manufacturing facilities on the African continent, underscoring its potential impact on the country’s industrial landscape.

“This factory, when completed, will be one of the biggest in Africa,” he stated.

The President noted that the initiative aligns with broader plans to revive local manufacturing and add value to Ghana’s natural resources, rather than exporting raw materials. He said projects of this nature are key to building a resilient, self-sustaining economy.

Once fully operational, the factory is expected to meet growing demand for glass in construction, beverage production, and other manufacturing sectors, while reinforcing Ghana’s position as a regional industrial and export hub.
