Ghana’s police will seek an international arrest warrant through Interpol for a Russian national accused of publishing sexually explicit images and videos of Ghanaian women without their consent, Communications Minister Sam Nartey George said on Wednesday.

Sam George said the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took the decision after receiving formal complaints from several women who appeared in a viral video involving the suspect, prompting investigations by security agencies.

Authorities have confirmed the suspect’s identity and nationality through passport verification, establishing that he is a Russian citizen, George said, dismissing earlier online speculation about his origins.

Describing the alleged acts as “atrocious conduct”, the minister said they violate Ghanaian law, breach the privacy of the victims and undermine their dignity, adding that the government would pursue accountability regardless of the suspect’s nationality.

In a related move, Ghana has summoned the Russian ambassador to formally convey its concerns and seek cooperation with the ongoing investigation, George said.

The case drew public attention after videos circulated widely on social media showing the suspect interacting with Ghanaian women, sparking outrage and renewed calls for tougher action against online sexual exploitation. Investigations are continuing.
