The Ministry of the Interior and National Security has confirmed reports of a terrorist attack in Burkina Faso involving a vehicle transporting Ghanaian tomato traders.
In a statement issued on Saturday, February 14, 2026, and signed by the sector Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the government described the development as deeply concerning. The incident is reported to have occurred in Titao, a town in northern Burkina Faso.
According to the release, the truck carrying the Ghanaian traders was affected during the attack, prompting fears about the safety and condition of those on board.
“The Government of Ghana has received disturbing information from Burkina Faso about a truck carrying tomato traders from Ghana that was caught in a terrorist attack in Titao,” the statement indicated.
The Ministry further disclosed that Ghana’s Embassy in Burkina Faso has initiated contact with Burkinabe authorities to gather comprehensive details about the incident and verify the identities of any Ghanaian nationals involved.
“The Ghana Embassy in Burkina Faso is engaging local officials to visit the attack scene, obtain further information, and assist in identifying any Ghanaians affected,” the statement added.
Authorities assured the public that updates would be provided as investigations progress and more verified information becomes available.
The incident comes at a time of escalating security challenges across parts of the Sahel region, where extremist attacks have increased in frequency in recent years.
