The Amasaman High Court has reduced the prison sentence of controversial evangelist Patricia Asiedu, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, from 15 years to one year after ruling that the original punishment was excessive.
In its ruling, the court upheld her conviction but exercised its discretionary powers to review the sentence, concluding that while the offence warranted a custodial sentence, the initial 15-year term with hard labour was disproportionate to the circumstances of the case.
The revised sentence takes effect from July 3, 2025, the date of her conviction, meaning Nana Agradaa will serve a total of 12 months in prison.
Nana Agradaa, a former fetish priestess who later became an evangelist, was convicted of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretences. The original sentence imposed by the trial court had generated widespread public debate and attracted significant legal attention.
