Santiago Bernabéu Stadium Emerges as Front Runner for 2030 World Cup Final

The Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid has emerged as the leading candidate to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup final, although FIFA has not yet made an official decision on the final venue.

The 2030 World Cup will be jointly hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, with three centenary celebration matches in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay to mark the tournament’s 100th anniversary. This announcement was confirmed by FIFA on December 11, 2024, during an Extraordinary FIFA Congress.

According to Spanish media reports from MARCA in July 2025, an agreement has been reached between FIFA and Real Madrid for the Bernabéu to host the final. However, sources close to the organizing committee have denied these assertions, and FIFA is not expected to finalize any decision until the end of 2026.

The excellent relationship between FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez Madrid has been cited as a key factor in the Bernabéu’s favor. The stadium previously hosted the 1982 World Cup final, making this potential selection particularly symbolic.

Barcelona’s Camp Nou has also bid to host the final, with delays and uncertainties in its renovation project potentially weakening the city’s candidacy. Morocco’s Grand Stade Hassan II in Casablanca, designed with a planned capacity of 115,000, cannot be ruled out, with its architect stating it was “designed for the 2030 final.”

According to FIFA regulations, the World Cup final venue must accommodate at least 80,000 spectators. The Bernabéu’s World Cup capacity is listed at 78,297 seats in the bid book, meaning Real Madrid would need to increase capacity to meet FIFA requirements.

Morocco has emerged as the leading candidate to host the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, with reports suggesting a “99 percent” chance, though FIFA has not made an official announcement. The 2029 tournament would serve as a preparation event one year before Morocco co-hosts the 2030 World Cup.
