The Volta North Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals for allegedly trafficking substances suspected to be narcotic drugs in the Volta Region.
The suspects, identified as Etornam Vumadzi, a driver, and Emmanuel Komlagah, were arrested on Friday, January 30, 2026, following an intelligence-led police operation. They were intercepted while transporting the suspected drugs from Godenu towards the Togo border in a Toyota minibus with registration number GT-6592-19.
According to a police statement issued on Saturday, January 31, and signed by the Volta North Regional Public Relations Officer, Inspector Felix Kwao, a search of the vehicle uncovered 18 sacks containing yellow oval-shaped parcels. Each sack held 36 parcels, bringing the total number of seized parcels to 648, all suspected to be narcotic substances.
Police further disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed attempts to compromise the operation through bribery. A third party, identified only as Joseph, allegedly contacted the officers and offered GH¢150,000 to influence the outcome. The suspects themselves also reportedly offered an upfront bribe of GH¢32,000. All offers were firmly rejected by the police team.
The two suspects are currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court to face the full rigours of the law.
