Following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, a former MP and a member of Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s campaign team, has assured party supporters that Bryan Acheampong, who finished third in the race, remains fully committed to the NPP’s success.
“He will always be party first. I know him for that,” Kissi stated firmly during an appearance on JoyNews’ AM Show. “That has been his thing always party, party, party.”
Kissi explained that Acheampong’s reason for running was rooted in a vision for the party’s future, not just personal ambition. According to him, Acheampong’s campaign focused on a desire to steer the NPP back to what he sees as its foundational principles.
“Based on his manifesto, he wanted to push the party to return to the true culture of patriotism and selflessness the things that made the NPP the NPP,” Kissi said. He described the campaign’s central message as a call to “go back to basics” and revisit the winning strategies that once made the party broadly popular across Ghana.
Now that the primary is over, the question of how the party manages internal relations is being discussed. The contest, held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, saw former Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerge victorious with 110,643 valid votes. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong placed second with 46,554 votes.
Dr. Bryan Acheampong secured the third position with 36,303 votes. Despite this result, Kissi insists that Acheampong’s dedication is unwavering.
“He cannot depart from that loyalty. His focus has always been about strengthening the NPP and making it attractive to Ghanaians again,” Kissi asserted, dismissing any notion of division.
Some political commentators have suggested that the party’s ability to integrate its strong runners-up, like Acheampong, into the main campaign effort could be a factor in its performance in the upcoming national polls.
But from Kissi’s perspective, the path is clear. He maintains that for Bryan Acheampong, the party’s collective goal returning to power remains the absolute priority.
