Christian Council Calls on NPP to Safeguard Peace Ahead of Presidential Primary

The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has appealed to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to work toward a peaceful and orderly presidential primary election scheduled for this weekend.

At an event in Accra marking the International Day of Peaceful Coexistence, the Council’s General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Cyril Fayose, called on both aspirants and delegates to ensure that the internal voting process remains calm, respectful and free of hostility before, during and after the polls.

The council also urged key institutions, including the Ghana Police Service and the Electoral Commission, to collaborate closely with security agencies to maintain stability throughout the exercise.

Rev. Dr. Fayose emphasised that Ghana’s democratic system depends on active opposition parties and peaceful competition, noting that a vibrant opposition contributes to the strength of democratic credentials both locally and across the subregion. He commended the NPP’s initiative in organising a peace pact signing among its presidential hopefuls, and encouraged all participants to honour the pact’s principles to prevent disruptions on election day.

Speaking on the broader need for unity, the Council’s leadership urged Ghanaians from all walks of life including political, traditional and religious leaders to embrace diversity and work together to resolve conflicts through peaceful, democratic and lawful means.
According to the Council, this kind of cooperation is essential for long-term national development.

At the same event, representatives from other faith communities shows the importance of interfaith harmony, highlighting the strong relationships between Christian and Muslim leaders in Ghana and their shared commitment to peace.
