CAF Sanctions Senegal, Morocco Over AFCON 2025 Final Incidents

CAF’s Disciplinary Committee has issued heavy sanctions following incidents during the AFCON 2025 final in Morocco, affecting both Senegal and the host nation.

Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw has been suspended for five CAF matches and fined $100,000 for unsporting conduct.

Players Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr each received two-match bans, while the Senegalese FA was fined a total of $600,000 for the conduct of supporters, players and technical staff.

Morocco were also sanctioned, with captain Achraf Hakimi handed a two-match suspension (one suspended for a year), and Ismaël Saibari banned for three matches and fined $100,000.

The Moroccan FA was fined $200,000 over ball boys’ behaviour and a further $100,000 for a VAR-related incident involving players and staff.

CAF has officially rejected Morocco’s appeal to have Senegal stripped of the AFCON 2025 title following the chaotic final. The Appeals Committee found no sufficient grounds to overturn the result, meaning Senegal’s victory stands and they are now formally confirmed as AFCON 2025 champions. The matter is considered closed by CAF, despite the controversy surrounding the match.

CAF confirmed all sanctions take immediate effect, with the final result standing.
