Prof Mike Oquaye Urges NPP to Unite Ahead of January 31 Primaries

The former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Mike Oquaye, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirants to maintain unity as the party nears its primary elections scheduled for January 31, 2026.

Speaking at the peace pact signing ceremony for the candidates in Accra, Prof. Oquaye urged the aspirants to conduct themselves honorably, emphasizing that upholding the party’s traditions is vital for securing victory in the upcoming general elections.

Prof. Oquaye detailed the measures implemented to ensure a credible and transparent process. These consists of the active oversight of the Presidential Election Committee, the involvement of the Ghana Police Service, and the establishment of an internal Advisory Committee tasked with preventing unfair practices and fostering candidate confidence.

“The police are present here, and we are grateful for their involvement. This underscores that we are not conducting a secret election in any corner,” Prof. Oquaye stated. The process is open and transparent, and there will be no grounds for complaint at the conclusion of the polls.”

He further noted the presence of officials from the National Peace Council, whose observation is intended to provide an additional layer of accountability and prevent any potential disturbances during the electoral process.
