Former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu Arrested in US Over Extradition Request

Former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, has been apprehended in the United States and is now being held by US authorities as legal steps proceed to return her to Ghana.

According to a statement from Ghana’s Embassy in Washington, Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu was arrested by United States Marshals on January 6, 2026, acting on an extradition request formally submitted by the Government of Ghana in July 2024. She is currently being detained at the Nevada Southern Detention Center in Pahrump, Nevada, where she will remain while the extradition process progresses through the US judicial system.

This development marks a major move in Ghana’s effort to secure Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu’s return following her conviction in Ghana on multiple criminal counts related to financial misconduct during her tenure at MASLOC, for which she was sentenced in absentia.

Officials have confirmed that the arrest and detention represent the activation of formal legal cooperation between Ghana and US authorities, transitioning the matter from diplomatic discussion to the judicial phase of extradition.

At this stage, details about the schedule for court hearings and the next steps in the extradition process have not been disclosed, but Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu’s detention underscores that law enforcement agencies on both sides have acted on Ghana’s request.
