NaCCA Orders Return of SHS Physical Education & Health Manual Over Controversial Gender Definition

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has directed teachers in possession of hard copies of the Senior High School Physical Education and Health teachers’ manual to return them with immediate effect.

The directive follows public concerns over a section of the manual containing a definition of gender identity, which has generated controversy.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, the Chairman of the NaCCA Board, Professor Vincent Assanful, confirmed the decision, explaining that a comprehensive review of the curriculum is currently underway.

He noted that the review covers educational materials from the basic to the secondary level, with the aim of ensuring that content aligns with Ghanaian values while upholding educational standards.

According to Prof. Assanful, the review will not be limited to the section on gender identity but will involve a critical assessment of the entire manual to ensure clarity, relevance, and appropriateness for use in schools.
