KNUST Climax 2025 with Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), under the auspices of the Chaplaincies, has ended the year 2025, with a Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols bringing together staff, students and the university community to mark the Christmas season.

The service, themed “The Birth of the King of the Universe,” reflected on the significance of the birth of Jesus Christ through scripture readings, hymns, and choral music, portraying the journey from creation to redemption.

The First Bible Lesson, taken from Genesis 1:26–31, was read by Mabel Mensah, National Service Representative, and followed by a carol from the Glorious Symphony Ghana Choir. The Second Lesson (Genesis 3:9–20) was read by Mrs. Olivia Ayensu of the KNUST Basic School, with a subsequent carol by the St. Louis Senior High School choir.

The Third Lesson (Isaiah 9:2–7) was delivered by Albert Kofi Ayiah, from the Teachers and Educational Workers Union of the Trade Union Congress (TEWU-TUC), followed by a carol from the Kumasi Anglican Senior High School Choir. The Fourth Lesson, from Micah 5:2–4, was read by a representative of the Senior Staff Association of KNUST, Dr. Benedict Ansere after which the congregation joined in a Congregational Carol from the Methodist Hymn Book (MHB 117).

Dr. Mrs. Linda Bedu-Addo from the Ghana Association of University Administrators read the Fifth Lesson from (Luke 1:26–33), on behalf of the Association. This was followed by music from the Bethel Presby Brass Band, Boadi. The Sixth Lesson (Matthew 1:18–23) was read by Professor Mrs. Linda Ofori, on behalf of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), with a carol by the District Choir.

The Deputy Head of Security, Mrs. Millicent Owusu Nyarko delivered the Seventh Lesson from (Luke 2:8–16) , followed by a carol from The Medical Heralds, based at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). The Eighth Lesson (Matthew 2:1–11) was read by Stanley Xodanu from the Teachers and Educational Workers Union, Ghana (TEWU-GH), after which the Bethel Methodist Church Choir sang a carol.

The Ninth and final Lesson was taken by the Vice President of the Students Representative Council, Justice Atuahene Frimpong, from John 1:1–14, followed by another carol from the Glorious Symphony Ghana Choir.

Delivering the Christmas message, the Protestant Chaplain, Reverend Dr. Joseph W. Acheampong, emphasised the spiritual meaning of Christ’s birth as the King of the Universe and encouraged the university community to embody love, peace, and humility.
