The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, has unveiled series of strategic initiatives to strengthen and expand partnerships with its affiliate Colleges. The Provost of the College of Health Sciences (CHS) Professor Christian Agyare, revealed these reforms in his address at the 12th Graduation Ceremony for the Ministry of Health Training institutions.
Professor Agyare stated that recognizing that quality training begins with excellent educators, KNUST will continue to offer concessionary admissions into postgraduate programs for tutors from affiliate institutions. This initiative, according to him, will strengthen pedagogical skills, expand knowledge and build a transformative teaching workforce.
“In a world where knowledge moves at the speed of innovation, access to information must never be a privilege but a right,”Professor Agyare said,
On information, the Provost hinted that students and tutors of affiliate institutions will now enjoy unrestricted access to KNUST’s e-library and learning management platforms. This, will give them essential resources for academic development, research and professional growth. He added that specialized workshops have been planned for librarians and Information Technology personnel of the MoHTIs. This will enhance their capacity to support students effectively.
On examinations, Professor Agyare said, the university has introduced computer-based demonstration examination to address students’ concerns about limited exposure to KNUST’s digital exams. The simulations will reduce exam anxiety, improve readiness, and familiarize students with the required standards.
He also announced plans to build the capacity of teaching staff of the affiliate institutions. “Through the strategic intervention framework, KNUST is committed to continuous faculty development”. Tutors and administrative staff will participate in workshops, seminars and professional development programs. This will strengthen teaching, modern examination practices, and student assessment techniques” he stated. The Provost also said these collaborative efforts will focus on developing competency-based curricula aligned with emerging global health trends.
The Provost of CHS, also acknowledged that KNUST is building the capacity of the MoHTIs in research writing, publications and other scholarly activities. This will enable tutors and students to contribute to evidence-based practice, influence policy, and generate knowledge from an African perspective.
The 12th Graduation Ceremony for the MoHTIs at KNUST according saw the presentation of 19,756 graduands from 76 Ministry of Health training colleges. The event underscores KNUST’s commitment to developing a skilled and capable health workforce in the country.
