The Tertiary Education Workers’ Union of Ghana (TEWU-GH) has strongly disowned a leadership claim made by its KNUST Local Chairman, Mr Charles Arthur, describing his actions as illegal, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to destabilise the Union.
In a statement signed by the National Chairman, Sulemana Abdul-Rahman, the Union clarified that Mr Arthur is not the National Chairman of TEWU-GH and has no authority to speak or act on behalf of the national leadership.
According to the Secretariat, Mr Arthur has engaged in a pattern of misconduct, including convening unauthorised meetings, attempting to rally a faction of supporters, and orchestrating an unlawful “self-appointment” as National Chairman through a letter dated 5th November 2025. The Secretariat said it immediately rejected the move and warned him and his collaborators against further breaches of the Union’s constitution.
TEWU-GH further disclosed that attempts to resolve the matter peacefully were ignored. Mr Arthur allegedly refused to attend an officially scheduled meeting on 27th November 2025 and instead issued another unauthorised statement declaring himself National Chairman and threatening to call a strike if the Union did not receive its bargaining certificate by December.

The National Secretariat warned stakeholders, including university managements, regulatory bodies, and the public, to disregard any communications issued by Mr Arthur or groups aligned with him, stressing that his actions do not reflect the Union’s official position.
The Union also linked his conduct to delays in securing TEWU-GH’s bargaining certificate, stating that his repeated disregard for procedure had disrupted previous engagements with the National Labour Commission and the Labour Department, forcing the process to restart multiple times.
TEWU-GH emphasised that leadership positions “cannot and will never be seized by personal declaration” and described Mr Arthur’s threats and public statements as gross misconduct. The Secretariat reaffirmed that the Union remains united, focused, and committed to due process.
The statement concluded by urging all stakeholders to ignore Mr Arthur’s communications, describing him as “an imposter” whose actions are unconstitutional and intended to disrupt the Union’s cohesion.
