Chancellor Inaugurates Completed Infrastructural Projects as Part of 59th Congregation Ceremony.

The chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has commissioned six complete projects as part of the 59th Congregation Ceremony. Commissioning forms an important component of this year’s congregation activities, highlighting significant infrastructural improvements that reinforce the University’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation and community development. The selected projects represent major investments in teaching, research, student welfare, and institutional advancement.

The Chancellor started at the KNUST Souvenir Shop, developed to enhance the University’s corporate identity and provide a dedicated space for branded items for students, staff, alumni and visitors. He also inspected and commissioned the 4-Storey Multipurpose Laboratory Building, a major addition to the University’s scientific and research infrastructure. The facility is expected to strengthen practical teaching and support advanced laboratory work across multiple disciplines.

The Institute for Rural Development and Innovation Studies (IRDIS), which is designed to drive research, innovation and capacity-building aimed at supporting rural transformation and socio-economic development, was also commissioned.

The commissioning team, led by the Asantehene, also visited the Greenhouses Project, an initiative that provides modern facilities for agricultural training, research and climate-resilient crop production. These greenhouses will enhance hands-on learning and promote innovation in agricultural science.

Another major project to inaugurated was the KNUST Bottling Factory Building, intended to support industrial training, product development and entrepreneurial initiatives within the University’s science and engineering programs

 

The tour ended at the KNUST Children’s Park, a newly developed recreational facility intended to support student-parent welfare and provide a safe, inclusive environment for children within the campus community.

This commissioning exercise underscores the University’s continuous efforts to expand its infrastructure and improve the quality of academic and social services. It also reflects the exceptional leadership and unwavering support of the Chancellor, whose vision continues to guide KNUST toward greater national relevance and global prominence.
