A tragic air incident has struck the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) as a Z-9 military helicopter crashed on the morning of Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, with several fatalities feared. The helicopter, which had taken off earlier in the day en route to Obuasi, reportedly lost contact with aviation control and went off radar shortly after departure.
According to a preliminary statement from the GAF, the aircraft had eight individuals on board, three crew members and five passengers. Military sources confirm that search and rescue operations were swiftly launched following the disappearance of the aircraft.
Teams were deployed to the crash site, where recovery efforts and investigations are currently ongoing. While the cause of the crash is yet to be determined, authorities have assured the public of a thorough investigation into the incident.
