In a powerful revelation on Focus FM’s Teknokrat show, Executive Director of ProActif Global, Mr. Nathaniel Oduro, emphasized that individuals living with HIV can live healthier, more vibrant lives than even those without the virus, if they strictly adhere to prescribed treatments. Speaking with host Sika Audrey Dzifa, Mr. Oduro debunked common myths surrounding HIV and addressed the dangerous attitudes of fear, shame, and negligence that persist in Ghanaian society.
“There is no cure yet, but HIV is manageable,” he stated. “People who follow their treatment plan religiously can enjoy full, productive lives and in many cases, their overall health surpasses that of those who are not living with the virus.” He strongly condemned the tendency for patients to abandon their medication due to stigma or despair.
“Missing doses doesn’t just endanger the patient. It increases the risk of spreading the virus to others.
Adherence isn’t optional, it’s life-saving,” Mr. Oduro stressed. The conversation also turned to the responsibilities of healthcare providers in delivering diagnoses with care.
Mr. Oduro highlighted the emotional toll of discovering one’s HIV status and the need for health workers to offer support and guidance, not just information. He encouraged newly diagnosed patients to reject hopelessness.
“It’s not the end. You can still live, love, and dream but you must stay consistent with your medication.”
Addressing the broader public, he called for a collective fight against stigma. “HIV is not contagious through touch or conversation.
We must stop treating people with the virus like they’re less human. Let’s replace shame with support.”
As the world continues its fight against HIV/AIDS, Mr. Oduro’s message is clear: treatment is powerful — and so is compassion.
