Strike Actions Send Strong Message; NIA Staff Confident in Quick Resolution of Allowance Delays

Staff of the National Identification Authority (NIA) are optimistic that their ongoing strike action will prompt a swift resolution of unpaid allowances by government authorities. According to Dora Badu Acheampong, Head of Media Relations at the NIA, the decision to lay down their tools stems from the government’s failure to pay their operational support allowances since January 2025.

Speaking on Focus FM’s Teknokrat Show with Sika Audrey Dzifa, she emphasized that the strike is already generating the attention needed to resolve the matter. “As someone who has followed the news a little bit, what I can say is that yes, the strike action will get through to the powers that be,” she noted.

Dora explained that although the strike has inconvenienced many institutions dependent on the NIA, it has also accelerated government’s response. “You’ll notice that things are moving a bit more swiftly because of the strike’s effect on the country,” she said.

To minimize the negative impact, the NIA has initiated discussions with relevant agencies. She confirmed that NIA management met with the CEO of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to discuss a resolution.

“There are measures we’ve put in place to reduce the impact of the strike. Meeting with the FWSC is part of those steps.

We are working to ensure that all the appropriate institutions fulfill their roles so our staff can return to work,” she explained. The NIA strike has sparked broader national conversations about labor rights, government accountability, and the crucial role of the NIA in public service delivery.
