Professor Daniel Duah, the Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO) of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has revealed efforts to promote student mobility, faculty mobility, and joint research collaborations as part of its commitment to internationalising education at the University. Speaking on Good Morning KNUST with Abena Serwaa Gyamfi, Professor Duah, outlined the key roles the office plays in creating global opportunities for both students and staff.
He noted that KNUST currently partners with over 480 institutions across the globe through signed memoranda of understanding, which also include collaborations with Municipal Assemblies and other government agencies. Prof. Duah highlighted several avenues open to students, including fully funded programmes such as Erasmus+ from the European Union and opportunities at the Technical University of Munich.
He emphasised that most graduate programmes in France, contrary to popular belief, are taught in English, removing the language barrier that often discourages applicants. He emphasised the need for students to familiarise themselves with the specific criteria for each programme, as overlooking a single requirement could affect their chances of selection.
“Every international programme has its own requirements, and it is important that interested students take note of specific application details such as recommendation letters, CVs, and motivation statements,” he advised. To better prepare students for their international experiences, He stated that the IPO offers orientation sessions that cover key aspects of travel, including local laws, culture, food, and climate in host countries.
According to him, this helps ease the transition for students and ensures they make the most of their academic exchange. He encouraged all students to take the initiative to explore these opportunities and visit the IPO office, which is located on the ground floor of the Kojo Botsio Building in the university’s Commercial Area.
Professor Duah ended by urging students and faculty to stay connected with the IPO via social media by following @IPO_knust for regular updates on scholarships, exchanges, and collaborative research initiatives.
