Public Relations Officer for Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Haruna Yakubu, has firmly denied claims that an injunction has been placed on their ongoing strike, which began on June 2, 2025. Mr. Haruna, made the clarification during an interview on the Teknokrat show on Focus FM, hosted by Sika Audrey Dzifa.
He emphasized that the strike will continue until the government fully implements the terms of the 2024 Collective Agreement negotiated with the health workers. “We are done negotiating with our employers.
What remains is the implementation. We are not taking delight in the strike, but we also deserve to have our demands met,” Mr. Haruna stated.
“The employers want to begin implementation next year, but that is not what was agreed upon.” He explained that the only way to end the strike is for government representatives to return to the table and finalize the documentation for implementation.
Reacting to reports that the government may use intern nurses and national service personnel (NSPs) to replace striking professionals, Mr. Haruna raised strong concerns. “The intern nurses and NSPs have only theoretical knowledge.
Employing them to take over the roles of experienced nurses and midwives is not only unethical but also dangerous and illegal,” he warned. He further called on the media to amplify the concerns of the nurses and midwives and urged the government to prioritize the well-being of health professionals by addressing their legitimate demands.
The strike has sparked public concern over its potential impact on healthcare delivery in the region, with many hoping for a swift resolution between the government and the Association.
