A lecturer in History and Political Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Amakye Boateng, has described the government’s new code of conduct for public workers as part of a broader presidential vision to “reset” the nation. Speaking on Focus FM’s Teknokrat, Dr. Boateng said the President’s move signals a shift towards accountability and discipline within the public sector.
“His very simple, straightforward message is that Ghana needs a resetting and I personally bought into this whole idea,” he stated. Dr. Boateng commended the introduction of the code, noting that it sets a clear boundary for appointees in their dealings with both the government and the public.
“They are the instruments that he is going to use to fight corruption. They are going to enable him to measure the behaviour of his appointees relative to those ideals, the norms in the codes,” he added.
However, he emphasized that the success of the policy hinges on the President’s willingness to enforce it without bias. “The code of conduct can fight corruption, provided the President will step aside and allow the policy to work on the victims,” he cautioned.
The comments follow the government’s official implementation of a new code of conduct for public servants on May 5. Dr. Boateng urged that beyond policy implementation, accountability must be the hallmark of this new chapter if it is to yield real reform.
