Volunteering in Media; A Pathway to Personal Growth and Career Success

General Manager of Focus FM and morning show host at Nhyira FM, Nana Kwadwo Jantuah, has underscored the transformative impact of volunteering in the media industry. Speaking at the MESCA program on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the Gardiners Conference Room in the Great Hall, he encouraged aspiring media professionals to embrace volunteerism as a stepping stone to success.

The event brought together prominent media figures, including Kofi Adu Domfeh, News Editor at Multimedia Group and development communication specialist; Nana Osei Kesse, brand strategist and host of MusicPlus; and Nana Kwadwo Jantuah himself, who also serves as a lecturer at the Department of Media and Communications. Reflecting on his own journey, Nana Jantuah shared how, despite studying Building Technology at KNUST, his passion for media drove him to carve a successful career in broadcasting.

He highlighted the importance of perseverance, noting that aspiring media personalities must be willing to push past discouragement, even from close family and friends. He further outlined key areas where media enthusiasts can develop their skills, including content creation, audio and video production, and fact-checking through digital research tools to combat misinformation.

Citing Isaac Newton’s words, “If I am given eight hours to cut down a tree, I will spend seven hours sharpening the axe and the remaining hour cutting it down” he emphasized the need for preparation and continuous learning in achieving career goals. The event, themed “Empowering the Next Generation of Communicators,” sought to break barriers in communication, ensuring inclusivity, accessibility, and relevance in the evolving media landscape.
