The University Health Services at KNUST has officially launched World Oral Health Week 2025, marking the start of a year-long campaign aimed at promoting oral health awareness and preventive care. The initiative, which aligns with World Oral Health Day, encourages individuals, schools, and healthcare professionals to prioritize oral hygiene and combat oral diseases.
This year’s theme, “A Happy Mouth is… A Happy Mind,” emphasizes the strong connection between oral health and mental well-being. Speaking at the launch, Dr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Owusu, Medical Officer (Dental) and Chairman of the Public Health Subcommittee for the celebration, highlighted the importance of oral hygiene in boosting confidence and reducing stress.
“A healthy mouth can enhance positivity, while poor oral health can lead to discomfort, anxiety, and social withdrawal,” Dr. Owusu stated. As part of the campaign, the hospital has outlined various activities, including free dental screenings and polishing for hospital staff from Tuesday to Friday.
Dr. Owusu also hinted at plans to extend these services to the entire university community next year. Additionally, on Thursday, the dental health team will visit Weweso M/A JHS to educate students on proper oral hygiene and dental care.
The launch of World Oral Health Week 2025 at KNUST underscores the university’s commitment to promoting oral health as an essential component of overall well-being.
