KNUST TCC-CIMET Inspires Future Engineers; Weweso JHS Students Explore IoT and Innovation

The KNUST TCC Centre for Innovation, Manufacturing, and Technology Transfer (TCC-CIMET) has empowered students of Weweso M/A JHS with practical demonstrations of engineering concepts and the Internet of Things (IoT) at a hands-on workshop. The event, held as part of the 2025 World Engineering Day celebrations, aimed to spark curiosity and ignite a passion for STEM education among young learners.

TCC-CIMET, a UNESCO Category II Centre of Excellence at KNUST, focuses on engineering research, advanced manufacturing, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship training across Africa. Director-General of TCC-CIMET, Professor Francis Davis, stressed the importance of demystifying STEM education. “Engineering is not reserved for a select few; it is open to everyone.

Early exposure to engineering unlocks vast opportunities for students,” he noted. A Computer Science lecturer and Research Fellow at TCC-CIMET, Dr. Oliver Kornyor,  guided students through Arduino programming, showing how engineers and computer scientists can locally develop IoT solutions.

IT Coordinator for the Oforikrom Municipal Ghana Education Service,  Mr. Bright Appietu, lauded the initiative for making STEM education more practical and accessible.
