KNUST Enhances Digital Learning; Expands Computer-Based Examination System

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has taken a bold step in modernizing its assessment methods; the university has expanded its Computer-Based Examination (CBE) system to enhance efficiency and security. This development aligns with the institution’s goal of embracing digitalization in its academic processes.

Mid-semester examinations for the 2024/2025 academic year began on Monday, February 24, and are scheduled to conclude on Friday, February 28, 2025. According to the Director of the E-Learning Centre, Professor Eric Appau Asante, this expansion represents a significant upgrade from the smaller-scale digital examinations conducted in previous years.

The ground floor of the newly inaugurated Library Mall has been converted into a state-of-the-art digital examination center, accommodating a larger number of students for on-site virtual exams. Professor Asante emphasized the importance of preparation in this transition, noting that all first-year students have received comprehensive training on the virtual examination system through the E-Learning Centre.

Additionally, student leaders and course representatives have been sensitized to provide support and guidance during the examinations. Sharing his experience, a first-year BSc. Mathematics student, Newton Kwame Godzo, praised the system’s efficiency and ease of use.

“The system was easy to access, and the internet connectivity was fast and efficient. Thanks to the training we received, I encountered no challenges during my Computing for Mathematics exam.

Logging in with my credentials and taking the exam was seamless,” he stated. The successful implementation of the expanded CBE system marks a significant milestone in KNUST’s digital transformation journey, setting the stage for more innovative approaches to academic assessments in the future.
