The Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development (AI4SD) and Responsible AI Lab (RAIL) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has earned global recognition after being selected to participate in the prestigious Grand Palais World AI Summit in France. Out of over 700 global submissions, KNUST’s AI lab was among the 50 projects chosen to showcase groundbreaking research in artificial intelligence, with a focus on AI-powered solutions for rare diseases.
The summit, which brings together key players in AI development, will provide KNUST with an opportunity to highlight Africa’s contributions to AI innovation. Project Lead for AI4SD and Principal Investigator at RAIL, Prof. Jerry John Kponyo, emphasized the significance of Ghana’s presence at the summit.
He noted that the event could accelerate Ghana’s national AI strategy and position the country as a leader in AI-driven economic transformation. Sponsored by the French Embassy, Ghana’s delegation will join global experts and policymakers in discussions on AI governance, ethical AI practices, and the future of AI in Africa.
The summit will also feature contributions from other African representatives, including speakers from Nigeria and the Distributed AI Research Institute, underscoring Africa’s growing role in the global AI ecosystem. With Ghana actively pushing for AI adoption across various sectors, KNUST’s participation in the summit signals the country’s potential to shape AI-driven solutions that address both healthcare challenges and economic development.
