The ongoing vetting process for ministers under the 9th Republic of Ghana took a significant turn on Thursday, 30th January 2025, as the Minister Designate for Environment, Science, and Technology, Hon. Mutala Muhammed, faced scrutiny from Members of Parliament. During the session, Member of Parliament for Weija Gbawe, Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, questioned the nominee about how he plans to handle permit issues under the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
In his response, Hon. Mutala assured the committee that he would personally supervise the EPA’s operations, focusing on the efficient issuance of permits. He also highlighted the importance of addressing noise pollution, noting that the existing EPA laws require amendments to better tackle this growing concern.
“Under my leadership, we will work towards refining the laws to ensure they are effective in tackling noise pollution and other environmental challenges,” he stated. The vetting session highlighted the nominee’s commitment to enhancing the operations of the EPA and addressing critical environmental concerns.
