Africa Health Collaborative Awards $150,000 to Health Start-Ups; Seven Receive Initial Grants

The Africa Health Collaborative at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, has awarded $150,000 to 15 health business start-ups. Seven of these start-ups, recognized for their innovative approaches to tackling critical challenges in healthcare, technology, and community development, received grants totaling $70,000.

The remaining businesses are set to receive funding once they implement recommendations provided by the panel team. The initiative is led by head of the Health Entrepreneurship pillar of the Africa Higher Education Health Collaborative, Prof. Wilberforce Owusu-Ansah.

The pillar focuses on nurturing entrepreneurial innovation in the health sector to create transformative solutions and employment opportunities. Last year, 16 start-ups benefited from the fund, demonstrating the Collaborative’s ongoing commitment to fostering health entrepreneurship and sustainable development.

Through these interventions, the Collaborative aims to support resilient ventures capable of addressing Africa’s pressing health challenges.
