The Crusaders Against Corruption pressure group, led by Emmanuel Wilson Junior, held an anti-corruption conference on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, as part of efforts to combat the endemic issue of corruption in Ghana. The event, dubbed “The Scarface of Corruption in Ghana,” focused on the potential threats the nation faces if urgent measures are not taken.
Prominent figures, including former Auditor-General Prof. Daniel Yaw Domelevo, University of Ghana UTAG President Prof. Ransford Gyampo, and KNUST Vice Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Samuel Adu Gyamfi, were present to share insights on the topic. Nana Juantuah moderated the panel discussion. During the event, Prof. Gyampo criticized the Electoral Commission’s decision to restrict media personnel during election coverage, stating it undermines transparency.
Prof. Domelevo supported this stance, advocating for collective media action, such as boycotting elections if restrictions persist. He also highlighted the dangers of public silence on corruption, emphasizing that unchecked corruption fosters unaccountable leadership, which ultimately harms the nation.
“Young people should not give up the fight against corruption despite threats from leaders,” Prof. Domelevo urged. He called on Ghanaians to prioritize the nation’s well-being over political affiliations and to speak out against wrongdoing.
The conference, attended by representatives from various political parties, concluded with a Q&A session where participants engaged panelists on practical ways to address corruption in Ghana.
