KNUST Appoints Dr. Nana Kwame Ayisi-Boateng as Director of University Health Services

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has announced the appointment of Dr. Nana Kwame Ayisi-Boateng as the new Director of University Health Services. He takes over from Dr. Osei Kwaku Wusu-Ansah, whose term ended this year.

Dr. Ayisi-Boateng is a distinguished alumnus of Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School and graduated from KNUST’s School of Medical Sciences in 2007. He further advanced his studies with an MPhil in Clinical Microbiology at KNUST and has achieved both membership and fellowship in Family Medicine from the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Since 2019, Dr. Ayisi-Boateng has served as a Lecturer in the Department of Medicine at KNUST. He has also held the position of Assistant Coordinator for the Physician Assistantship Programme since 2020 and has led the Infectious Disease Unit at the University Hospital since 2015.

His roles involve coordinating the training of house officers, residents, and interns to ensure they are well-prepared for their careers in healthcare. In addition to his academic and administrative responsibilities, Dr. Ayisi-Boateng is a prolific researcher with multiple publications in reputable journals.

His research spans various topics, including family medicine, infectious disease treatment, and COVID-19 patient outcomes. Notably, his studies on ivermectin treatments for onchocerciasis and the factors affecting hypertension among Ghanaians have garnered attention.

His contributions to understanding COVID-19 management have been particularly impactful within the Ghanaian healthcare context. With Dr. Ayisi-Boateng at the helm, KNUST’s University Health Services is poised for significant advancements in healthcare management and education.
