KNUST Hosts Inaugural Practitioners Forum; Students Gain Insights from Industry Experts

The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Studies at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), in partnership with the KNUST Career Services Centre, has successfully hosted its first-ever Practitioners Forum. This event provided a unique opportunity for students to interact with industry professionals, enhancing their understanding of current industry trends and the professional landscape.

The forum aimed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical experience, a goal underscored by the Head of the Department, Professor Foster Frimpong. He stated, “The Forum is a valuable platform for students to gain insights from industry professionals, enabling them to better prepare for their future careers.”

Director of the KNUST Career Services Centre, Selina Angmor, highlighted the Centre’s commitment to supporting students as they navigate their career paths. “We aim to foster entrepreneurial skills and international competitiveness, ultimately enabling students to become successful professionals,” she remarked.

The forum featured industry experts who engaged in discussions about the disparities between academia and the industry. CEO of Cylot Events, Mrs. Josephine Owusu Adu, emphasized the importance of staying updated with industry trends, particularly the shift towards sustainable practices in event planning, stating, “Key skills required in the job market include technical skills, practical skills, problem-solving abilities, and soft skills.”
