WATCH OUT AS AFRAFRANTO INVADES KUMASI WITH MEGA VICTORY WALK TOMORROW – GABBY CHEREH JNR.

The Movement for Change, a rising political force led by flagbearer Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, is set to organize the Afranfranto Mega Victory Walk in the Ashanti Region on Saturday, October 19, 2024. The walk, scheduled to begin at 6:00 a.m., will kick off at the Kumasi Cultural Center and culminate at the Kumasi City Mall.

According to the Ashanti Regional Communications Leader  for the movement, Gabby Chereh Jnr, it is time for Ghana to have an independent candidate as president and this mega walk is a step towards making it a reality.

“This is not the usual political health walk but one ushering us into the victory of the first ever independent president ( Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen) of the republic”, he said. This event is part of a broader effort by the Movement for Change to galvanize support ahead of the December general elections.

For three decades, Ghana’s political landscape has been dominated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with each party winning four presidential elections since 1992. While Ghana is officially a multiparty democracy, the dominance of these two parties has effectively limited political diversity, leaving smaller parties and independent candidates struggling for relevance.

The rise of the Movement for Change offers a fresh alternative in the country’s political scene. Alan Kyerematen’s decision to break away from the NPP and establish a new political movement is being viewed as a bold challenge to the duopoly of the NPP and NDC.

Kyerematen, a former Trade and Industry Minister, has long been a key figure within the NPP. His departure from the party marks a significant shift, making him the first prominent figure from either major party to form a viable third force.

The timing of Kyerematen’s departure could also work in his favor. Before the NPP’s presidential primaries in November 2023, polls suggested that 54% of Ghanaians preferred him to lead the party into the 2024 general elections, highlighting his strong public appeal.

Political analysts believe that his name recognition, experience, and policy background could draw support from disillusioned NPP voters and citizens seeking an alternative to the two dominant parties. The Afranfranto Mega Victory Walk is expected to attract thousands of supporters, demonstrating the Movement for Change’s growing momentum in the Ashanti Region, a key political battleground.
