USAG Elections Postponed; Irregularities at KNUST-Obuasi Raise Security Concerns

The University Students’ Association of Ghana (USAG) has announced the postponement of its much-anticipated elections, which were initially scheduled to take place at the KNUST-Obuasi campus as part of the 23rd Annual Delegates Congress. The elections, meant to elect new leaders to steer the affairs of the association, were called off due to widespread irregularities that raised serious security concerns at the venue.

According to the leadership of USAG, the postponement was necessary after reports emerged that certain processes leading up to the elections were flawed, jeopardizing the credibility of the event.  The elections, which were expected to usher in a new leadership team, will be rescheduled once the necessary corrective measures are implemented.

Delegates and students across the country have expressed mixed reactions to the postponement. While some applaud the decision to prioritize safety, others are frustrated by the delay, citing concerns about the impact on the association’s activities and projects.

The USAG leadership has urged patience from all stakeholders, stating that a new date for the elections will be announced after consultations with relevant parties.
