KNUST Geomatic Engineering Students Begin Mapping Project; Aim to Enhance Town Planning

Geomatic Engineering students at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have embarked on a project to develop comprehensive maps to improve town planning and management. Led by Prof. Samuel Andam-Akorful, the project focuses on creating geospatial products using advanced Geomatic Engineering techniques.

As part of the initiative, the department has transformed its final-year practical task into a two-week Survey Camp, where students collect real-world data in communities using state-of-the-art technology. The project is being piloted in collaboration with the Oforikrom Municipality to map Ayigya township’s natural and manmade features, aligning developments with town planning schemes.

Prof. Andam-Akorful stated that the project aims to complement the work of the Lands Commission, with a vision to expand it nationwide.
